So what's in a DVD lot? Films, box sets, TV series, kids' titles, and documentaries. Mix of mainstream releases and budget catalogue.
Some Blu-ray usually mixed in too, depending what came through.
Sourcing varies. Retailer overstock, rental stock clearances, and house clearance buys.
Being realistic about the market
DVDs aren't what they were, and pretending otherwise wastes your money.
Most common titles are worth pennies. Streaming killed the mainstream resale market completely.
The money sits in specific places. Out-of-print titles, box sets, cult and horror releases, anime, and anything never released digitally.
So this is a sorting game more than a volume game.
Where the value actually is
Box sets hold up best, since complete series still sell.
Out-of-print titles are where collectors pay real money. Some go for hundreds.
Anime and cult horror have dedicated buyers who pay properly.
Kids' titles move steadily at low prices, since parents still buy for car journeys.
Everything else is bulk, sold by the crate or to charity shops.
What to check
Discs first. Scratches, cracks, and wrong disc in wrong case are all common.
Open every case rather than trusting the artwork.
Check box sets are complete, since one missing disc kills the value.
Look for missing artwork, as a case without a cover barely sells.
Check for mould on paper inserts, which happens in damp storage.
Region coding matters if you're selling internationally.
Practical stuff
Weight is the thing. DVDs are heavy in bulk, so a pallet weighs far more than it looks.
Postage eats margin fast on single discs. Bundles work better.
Storage must be dry, since cases warp and inserts spot.
Who buys these
Market traders and car boot sellers. Charity shops buying stock, plus collectors hunting specific titles.
Some buyers take bulk for resale to recycling or export.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone buys a DVD lot and it's scratched discs and empty cases.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get a rough sense of what's in the load and where it came from. Freight handled properly. Someone real on the phone.
