Most is returns and overstock from big retailers. Someone ordered three sizes online, kept one, sent two back. Or a colourway stopped selling once the next drop landed.
Why footwear works
Everyone needs shoes, and they wear out. Demand doesn't really drop off the way it does with gadgets or toys.
Margins hold up too. A pair retailing at ninety might cost you eight or ten on a pallet. Even selling at half retail, that's decent money.
Market traders do well with these. So do car boot sellers, small shoe shops, and anyone selling on Vinted or Marketplace. Trainers especially move fast.
What to actually check
Sizes are the big one. Returns skew towards the sizes people don't want, so you might get a load of 6s and 13s and not much in between. Ask about the size spread before you buy.
Check both shoes are there and match. Sounds daft, but odd pairs turn up more often than you'd think.
Look at wear on the soles. Some returns have been worn properly, not just tried on. Those are seconds, and you price them as such.
Boxes matter for the collector-ish stuff. Trainer buyers care about the box, so battered ones knock the value down.
Then there's fakes. Counterfeit Nike and Adidas is everywhere in the wholesale market. Check stitching, box labels, and where the stock came from.
Storage is worth thinking about too. Shoe boxes are bulky, so a pallet takes more room than the weight suggests.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays for a footwear pallet and it's all odd sizes and worn soles.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get told what brands are in the load, roughly what sizes, and where it came from. Freight sorted properly. Someone real on the phone.
