So what's on a beverages pallet? Soft drinks, energy drinks, juices, flavoured water, iced coffee, sometimes protein shakes and mixers. Mix of brands and formats.
Most is retailer overstock and short-dated stock. A flavour gets discontinued, a promo ends, or packaging changes and the old cans have to move.
Why people buy these
Drinks sell fast, which is the whole appeal. High turnover, low decision-making, people just grab them.
Margins are workable at volume. A case costing you a couple of pounds can retail for well over that, and units shift daily rather than sitting around.
Corner shops move this best. So do market traders, vending operators, event caterers, and anyone with a takeaway counter.
Seasonal stock is worth watching too. Energy drinks and cold coffee spike in summer, so timing helps.
Dates are the whole game here
Check expiry before you buy anything, always. Beverage pallets usually move because the dates are getting close.
Short-dated is fine if you know it and price accordingly. Finding out after delivery is how people lose money on this category.
Be honest about how fast you can shift it. A pallet with six weeks left needs a plan, not optimism.
Other bits to watch
Dented and leaking cans are common. One burst can wrecks the tray around it, so expect a bit of loss.
Check storage conditions where it came from. Drinks stored somewhere hot lose quality, and cans stored damp corrode at the seams.
Weight is the practical issue. Liquid is heavy, so a beverage pallet is one of the heaviest you'll handle. Make sure you can move it.
Watch for grey imports too. Stock brought in from other countries sometimes lacks proper UK labelling, and that becomes your problem as the seller.
And check recalls, which happen occasionally with drinks.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays for a drinks pallet and it's a month off date with crushed cans throughout.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get the dates upfront, what's in the load, and where it came from. Freight handled properly. Someone real on the phone.
