Most is end-of-season overstock and returns. Colourways get retired, or someone ordered three sizes online and sent two back.
Why footwear works at volume
Unit counts are big. A truckload might hold ten or fifteen thousand pairs, which drops per-pair cost right down.
Shoes sell through plenty of routes too. Market stalls, car boots, online, export buyers, discount shops. You're not stuck with one channel.
Demand doesn't really dip either. People need shoes and they wear them out.
The bit that decides everything
Size spread. This is the whole game with footwear, and it's where loads go wrong.
Returns skew hard towards the extremes. You can end up with thousands of size 3s and 13s and almost nothing in the middle sizes that actually sell.
Ask for the ratio before committing, in writing. Anyone who won't give it usually knows why.
Season matters too. Sandals arriving in September means holding stock for eight months.
What to check
Condition split between new-with-tags, shelf pulls, and worn returns. Three different products, three different prices.
Look at soles for genuine wear, since some come back after real use.
Check pairs actually match, because odd shoes turn up more than you'd expect.
Box condition matters for trainers especially, since buyers care about it.
And watch for counterfeits, which are common in branded footwear at wholesale.
Practical stuff
Space is the big one. Shoe boxes are bulky, so fifteen thousand pairs takes a proper unit.
Dock or forklift needed, same as any truckload.
Sorting takes days. Budget the labour honestly.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone commits thousands and it's all odd sizes and worn soles.
