Two different Carhartt lines
This catches buyers out and it matters commercially.
Carhartt is the American workwear line. Heavy duck canvas, built for job sites, sold through work-wear and farm retail.
Carhartt WIP is Work In Progress, a separate European streetwear line under licence. Different cuts, different fabrics, different buyer, higher prices.
They're not interchangeable. Ask which is in a load, because streetwear buyers won't want the work line and vice versa.
Why workwear holds value
It's built to last, so used pieces still sell well. A worn Carhartt jacket has a market that a worn fast fashion jacket doesn't.
Vintage Carhartt sells strongly too, particularly to streetwear buyers.
Demand is year-round, since trades need it regardless of season. Jackets spike in autumn.
Market traders do well with these. So do work-wear suppliers, plus Depop and Vinted sellers on the streetwear side.
What to check
Size spread, which skews on returns as always. Workwear sizing runs large, so factor that in.
Check for genuine wear on returns, since trade buyers return after using items.
Look at seam integrity and stress points, which is where workwear fails.
Check zips and press studs on jackets.
Look for oil and paint marks, the classic workwear defect.
Watch for counterfeits, since Carhartt is faked heavily on the streetwear side.
