So what's on a laptop pallet? Mixed brands and specs. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Asus, sometimes MacBooks, across business and consumer ranges.

Nearly all customer returns and ex-corporate stock. Wrong spec ordered, or a company refreshed its fleet.

Before you buy your first one

Laptops are the highest-value pallet category most people start with, and that cuts both ways.

Working units are worth hundreds each. Dead ones are worth parts, not nothing, but far less than you paid.

So the whole game is your failure rate. Get that wrong and the maths collapses fast.

Be honest about whether you can test and repair. If you can't, graded and tested loads cost more but suit you far better.

Who does well with these

Repair shops and refurbishers, mainly. If you can wipe, reinstall, and fix, that's where the margin sits.

Parts sellers too. Screens, RAM, drives, and batteries all shift steadily on their own.

Anyone with a proper testing setup, basically. This isn't a category for sorting on the kitchen table.

The three things that catch people out

Cracked screens. Usually cost more to fix than the laptop is worth, so check first.

Locks. MacBooks with Activation Lock are unusable, full stop. Ex-business Windows machines sometimes carry BIOS or management locks with the same result.

Data. Every drive needs wiping properly, since returned laptops hold personal information and reselling that is a legal problem.

What else to check

Battery health, which degrades in storage.

Missing chargers, which is constant and hits value hard.

Specs matching what's claimed, since returns get mislabelled.

Hinges and casings for cracks.

Where you buy it

You've seen the threads. Someone spends thousands and most of it's locked or cracked.

Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get told what's in the load, what condition, and whether locks have been checked. Freight handled properly. Someone real answering.
