Size spread decides everything
This is the whole game with footwear, and it's where loads go wrong.
Returns skew hard to the extremes. You can end up with piles of 3s and 13s and almost nothing in the sizes people actually buy.
Ask for the ratio in writing before committing. Anyone who won't give it usually knows why.
Kids' shoes are the exception worth knowing. They sell in every size, because feet outgrow shoes before they wear out.
Condition grades, and what they mean
New with box is overstock that never sold. Costs more, fails less, lists as new.
Shelf pulls were on display but unworn. Boxes may be scuffed.
Customer returns are mixed. Some tried on once, some genuinely worn.
Three different products at three different prices. Get the split in writing.
What to check on arrival
Soles and midsoles for real wear. Compression lines in the foam mean a shoe has been run in.
Pairs actually matching, since odd shoes turn up.
Insoles present, as they go astray on returns.
Security tags left on, which happens regularly.
Yellowing on white midsoles, since unworn stock still ages in storage.
On premium brands
The handmade and small-batch names don't reach pallets. Lucchese, Veja, Tecovas control distribution too tightly.
Anyone offering those by the pallet is telling you something untrue. The mid-market is where the real money sits anyway.
Practical stuff
Shoe boxes are bulky, so one pallet takes more space than the weight suggests. Storage needs to be dry.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays for a shoe pallet and it's odd sizes and worn returns.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get the size spread, the condition split, and where it came from. Freight sorted properly. Someone real on the phone.
