Right, so what's actually on one of these? Cleaning stuff, stacked and sold by the pallet. Laundry pods, dish soap, sprays, bleach, big bottles of fabric softener. The mix is never quite the same twice, depending what came through that week.
Nearly all of it starts as overstock or shelf pulls. A shop ordered way too much for a promo that flopped. Or the brand changed its packaging, so all the old boxes had to go somewhere. Soap inside is perfectly fine. The label's just last year's.
Why this stuff sells
Detergent is dull, and honestly that's the best thing about it. Everyone buys it, nobody stops buying it, and it never goes out of fashion. Try saying that about phones or games consoles.
Corner shops shift it constantly. So do market traders, discount grocers, and the little independent places on high streets. Some people sell it online in bundles, but posting liquids gets expensive quick. Local pickup tends to work better for this one.
There's another bit people forget. It keeps. If it doesn't move this month, it'll move next month, no stress. None of that panic you get with food pallets creeping toward their date.
What to actually check
Ask about shelf life before you buy anything. Most detergent lasts a couple of years easily, though some enzyme ones get weaker over time. Just check the dates, takes two minutes.
Then there's leaks. Bottles shift about in transit, and one burst cap can ruin the boxes around it. A properly wrapped pallet mostly avoids this, but not always. Sensible thing is to expect a bit of loss and price it in.
Who you're buying from
You've heard the stories, everyone has. Someone pays up, waits three weeks, opens the pallet, and half of it's leaked everywhere. Happens more often than sellers like to admit.
Going through an actual distributor takes most of that risk off the table. Somebody tells you what's in the load and where it came from. Freight gets booked by people who do it daily. And when something's wrong, there's a real person answering.
