So what turns up on a toy pallet? Pretty much anything. Board games, dolls, plastic playsets, ride-on cars, puzzles, soft toys, remote control stuff. Loads of it still sealed in the box, some of it opened and sent back.

Most comes from returns and overstock at the big shops. January is huge for this, obviously. Everyone's returning duplicate presents, and stores are clearing shelves for the next thing.

Why people bother with toys

Margins can be genuinely good on this one. A boxed toy that retails at thirty quid might cost you two or three on a pallet. Even selling at half retail, you're doing alright.

Car boot sellers love toy pallets. So do market traders, charity shops buying stock, and people flipping on Marketplace. Parents will pay decent money for something their kid actually wants, especially near Christmas.

Which brings up timing. Toys are seasonal in a way detergent never is. Buy in spring when pallets are cheap, sit on them, sell hard from October onwards. People who plan around that make far more than people who don't.

The annoying bits

Missing pieces are the main headache. A board game with three cards gone is basically firewood. Open the boxes and check before you list anything, or you'll get returns and bad feedback.

Battery toys are worth testing too. Kids' electronics get returned because they broke, not always because someone changed their mind. Quick test, five seconds, saves you a refund later.

Then there's storage. Toys are bulky and light, so a pallet takes up way more room than the weight suggests. Make sure you've somewhere to put it before it turns up.

Safety marks matter as well. Anything for young children needs proper certification on the box. Don't sell anything without it, seriously.

Where it comes from

You've probably read the threads. Someone pays for a toy pallet, opens it, and it's all broken tat and empty boxes. Happens a lot in this corner of the market.

Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that risk out. You get told what's in the load, what state it's in, and where it came from. Freight gets sorted properly. And someone picks up when you ring.
