The key point: this is overstock and shelf pulls, not customer returns. Nobody bought it, used it, and sent it back.
New versus returns, and why it matters
Worth understanding properly, since it changes everything about the load.
Returns have been through a customer. Some are perfect, some are worn or broken, and you sort the spread yourself.
New condition never left the shelf. Tags still attached, packaging intact, nothing tried on.
Failure rates drop hard as a result. Most of it works and looks right, because nobody's had the chance to damage it.
You pay more per pallet for that. Whether it's worth it depends on what your sorting time costs you.
What "new" should actually mean
Ask for it in writing, because sellers use the word loosely.
New with tags is the real thing. Unsold, tagged, untouched.
Shelf pulls were on display but unsold. Usually fine, sometimes with handling marks.
New in damaged box means the product's new but the packaging isn't.
Those are three different prices. Don't accept "new" without a definition.
The realistic bit
It's unsold stock, which means it's unsold for a reason. Awkward sizes, difficult colours, ranges nobody wanted.
Seasonal stock is common too, so expect to hold some of it.
Packaging picks up scuffs in warehousing even when contents are perfect.
What to check
Tags actually present on apparel, since that's what justifies the price.
Size spread, which skews even on new stock.
Piece count, so you can work out cost per unit.
Freight cost upfront, since that's where cheap pallets stop being cheap.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays new-condition prices and gets returns.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get the condition definition in writing, the piece count, and where it came from. Freight sorted properly. Someone real on the phone.
