So what's on one of these? Boxed game discs across three console generations. PS3, PS4, and PS5 titles mixed together.
Sports titles, shooters, racing, RPGs, plus a lot of licensed and budget releases.
Most is retailer overstock and returns. Someone got a duplicate at Christmas, or a shop cleared out older stock.
Each generation behaves differently
Worth knowing before you buy, since the maths changes.
PS5 discs hold value best, since the console is current. Recent titles still fetch real money.
PS4 discs are the volume play. Enormous install base, huge library, low unit cost, steady demand.
PS3 discs are mostly bulk territory now, though certain rare titles are genuinely collectible. Worth checking rather than assuming.
Ask for the generation split before committing.
Download codes are the trap
Newer games often shipped with single-use codes for extra content or the full game.
If someone's used the code, the value drops through the floor. A sealed-looking case tells you nothing.
Check for opened code inserts on anything from PS4 onwards.
Some PS4 and PS5 titles are download-only in a box, which means a used code makes the disc worthless.
What else to check
Disc condition. Scratches, cracks, and the wrong disc in the wrong case are all common on returns.
Open every case rather than trusting the artwork.
Check manuals and inserts are present, which matters for collectors.
Look for missing artwork, since a case without a cover is hard to sell.
Region coding on PS3 stock especially.
Age ratings matter if you're selling in a shop, since 18-rated sales to minors are a legal problem.
Who buys these
Game shops and market traders. Car boot sellers, retro fairs, and plenty of people bundling on eBay.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays for a games pallet and it's empty cases and scratched discs.
Buying through an actual distributor takes most of that out. You get the generation split, the condition, and where it came from. Freight sorted properly. Someone real on the phone.
