Most is retailer returns and overstock. Someone bought one, found it heavier than expected, sent it back. Or a model got superseded and the shop cleared it.
Why scooters sell
Prices are strong for what they cost you. A scooter retailing at three hundred might cost you thirty or forty on a pallet.
Demand runs all year, then spikes in spring. Commuters, students, and parents buying for kids all keep it moving.
Repair shops buy these too. A scooter with a dead battery is still worth good money for the motor, deck, and controller.
Market traders do well with them. So do cycle shops, plus loads of people selling locally, since buyers like a test ride first.
The battery question, which decides everything
Lithium batteries are the whole risk here. They degrade sitting in a warehouse, so an old pack might charge and then die in ten minutes.
Test every unit properly. Full charge, then actually ride it or run it under load.
Check for swelling on the pack. A bulging battery is dangerous and shouldn't be sold or stored, full stop.
Damaged lithium batteries are a genuine fire risk. Store them somewhere sensible, away from anything flammable.
Other things to check
Chargers go missing constantly on returns. Without one, resale value drops hard.
Check the deck and stem for cracks, since that's where scooters fail structurally.
Test the brakes properly. Both types, if it has two.
Look at tyre condition and whether they're solid or pneumatic.
And check shipping rules. Lithium batteries have transport restrictions, so plan how you'll move stock before you buy.
Where you buy it
You've seen the threads. Someone pays for a scooter pallet and it's dead batteries and cracked stems.
